Brights at the Emmys..

So just a quick rundown on the other night. What did you think of the Emmy fashions?  Citrus colors were clearly a favorite. Personally, I  think the red carpet can get a bit tired seeing everyone so made up and perfectly styled. I'd like to see a bit of mixing it up and a more natural look, less posing. Some still looked too made up and stiff. However, there were others who were rocking the more fresh look. The brights helped. I personally love yellow and so did a lot of gals last night...

I want this dress! Love the pockets and turquoise accessories.

Loved Julie Bowen,  Leslie Mann, Julianne Moore and Claire Danes. All were unique, but fun and flattering.

I thought Jessica Lange looked amazing. Chic and not frumpy.

I like orange, but I thought this was matronly. Gennifer Goodwin always looks great, but I didn't love this.

Padma Lakshmi was perfection. This orange was lovely on her.

Nicole's dress was pretty, but her more botoxed face was not. Why??
.

However, some clearly do need a stylist or just an honest friend...

Yikes! Poor Glen Close. Who told her this looked good?

Julia Ormand is beautiful, but this dress and hair were OLD!

Really, Ashley Judd?  I thought Valentino was her good pal. What's with this get-up with the Elvis hair, bow, earrings and pin!?

Let's end on a positive note...

Gorgeous were Emily Vancamp  above, and Hayden Panettiere below.

The jury's still out on Julianne Margolis dress. People seem pretty split. I think I like the pockets. It needs a necklace or a less extreme hair.

Speaking of hair -should it match your dress?

Something about Kelly Osborne's look was appealing to me. I've always liked lavender. What's your take?

And what's with this new trend of just covering the end of our bosoms like Kat Dennings? Some dresses were barely hanging on. It seems to be the new thing. All I can think is that they must be selling a lot of tape down in L.A....

What did you love or hate? I love to hear what you readers think.

  3. Kelly Osbourne looks amazing now. I thought the orange dresses were stunning, I'd love to try yellow, I've barely ever tried anything on in that colour, but I am becoming more and more drawn to brights.

    1. She does look great...Keep wondering if she had something done. She looks different. Orange was gorgeous wasn't it? Great on a brunette like you Tabs!

  4. I agree with all of your assessments. They were quite funny. Ginnifer was not smiling, Nicole's botoxed face and Ashley's hair. I liked the first two pictures. We need more celebrities and Hollywood stars with natural and elegant style. Thank you as always for your comment on my blog.

  5. I totally agree with everything you said - my absolute fave was julie Bowen in her neon dress which was stunning. Some of the rest you mentioned look uncomfortable and trussed up - if you don't look effortless, whatever you are wearing it's too hard for the viewer. Didn't think Julianne Moore's dress did anything for her waistline...

    1. I thought Julie really looked amazing too. Something about her dress, bag, earring-loved it all. Yes, too many look too stiff that's not very chic.

  6. Kim! There is a very funny story from a gala in Tacoma more than a decade ago...

Where a gal with a bubbly personality and ample nursing breasts wore a strapless "crumb catcher" (nipple covered) style gown. Must add that she is of petite stature so that anyone of average height had a wonder-full view. There are a couple of nicknames that have stuck in the retelling of this story (it does live on!) her "girls on a platter" or "loaves of bread rising".

Let me remind you that this gal has the GREATEST sense of humor... while talking to a gathered crowd she gestures lively and, out POPS one of her breasts! Without skipping a beat she lifts it and tucks it back into (more like onto) her dress.

So in Hollywood, there may just be a style pattern set - after a clingy baby bump gown you get to display the lovely "girls" during those nursing months. Wish those styles were fashionable when I was living those years!

    Great post! :-)

    1. Wow, what a story. She sounds like a character. Yes, did this gal just have a baby? Don't know, but I guess I could understand wanting to look sexy. Something that never occurred to me all the years I nursed. Just felt a bit messy..
Thanks Linda! Always love your notes.
