Mixing Leopard and Florals

I think I've had a love affair with leopard or animal prints since I was a small girl. I can still remember the feel and look of a boxy leopard print tote with faux tortoise handles that my mother owned. I adored that bag and once on a train trip back East, she let me use it as my own for all my books and coloring supplies! That was in the late 1960s, but by time I went to college in the 1980s animal prints were big again and I claimed it for my book bag. All my friends coveted that vintage tote. Oh how I wish I still had that bag.

If you read the post before last you know I was just up in San Francisco and did a bit of all shopping with my pal Adrienne of The Rich Life (on a budget). Shopping with her I found a dream blouse that was both floral and leopard from Equipment! Love! So me, since I already have a Floral & Leopard Pinterest board.  I was going to model my new blouse here, but I'm saving it to wear in Adrienne's (and Jill's of Everything Just So), special How I Wear My - animal print edition this week. Send your photos to them by October 1st., to be included in their fun posts of readers wearing their animal prints.

I also love a good floral as you know from this previous post. Leopard I like in smaller doses. Women my age have to be careful not to look like too cougar or Jackie Collins, if you get my drift.

That said, a little leopard gives you some fashion cred. The floral- a bit of innocence and femininity. Perhaps that's why the mix of the two, strikes just the right note..There's something inherently appealing about it to me.

Look what Alice Temperley showed at London fashion week for Spring /Summer 2014 in the four photos below. Lovely! Apparently she likes the mix and we'll be seeing more of it come Spring...

Dresses in both have been a big hit this year, especially loved this...
Dolce & Gabbana
 And this..

Leopard and floral can look so pretty in a bedroom. I've always been crazy for leopard rugs, but not so sure how the hubs would be.

Pinterest

The  stylish Linda of Design in My View found these online at Zara Home and thoughtfully sent me the link.  I think they would be so cute at a ladies' lunch with a hot pink tablecloth or cocktail hour. Thanks Linda!

Don't ask how much, (too much), but Roberto Cavalli is making a floral/leopard collection for children. Bergdorf-Goodman link here.

This look works best if one of the prints is in a small accessory counter to the other one. For example, I've been crazy about this floral jacket and how cute would it be paired with a small animal print wallet/clutch?

Can't find the original link, but similar versions here.
Prada zip wallet/clutch surprising found on Overstock.com

I also got a new leopard tote with my Neimans' cosmetic purchase. It's actually a really chic and not your usual freebee. I'm thinking it could be cute with a rose blouse I have...

A snap of my tote which I was using as my laptop bag as I worked at Peet's this week. (Like my new sequin converse? :D)

Are you now craving something floral or animal print for your autumn wardrobe?

I hope I'll see some of you on Adrienne and Jill's, How I Wear My fashion show post later this week!

 Have fun with your prints!

2013 Emmy's Red Carpet Chat

Dear reader friends, grab your latte, (heck by time I publish this it may be cocktail hour), and let's hash over last nights fabs and flubs from the Emmy Awards. The show was pretty fast. I think Neil Patrick Harris did a great job and I loved the dance routine, especially the roaring 20's part. Hey this is not an Emmy review post!

On with what really matters, the dresses!

My faves...

Loved Julia Louis-Dreyfus last night. She's so natural and pretty and real. Her dress and hair were perfect!

Elizabeth Moss looks wonderful with her cute bob in this Andrew Gin!

Kerry Washington's Marchesa dress was dreamy on her.

Michelle Dockery wearing Prada. Loved the colors here!

Padma Lakshmi is always lovely and her makeup and hair especially last night..

Anna Gunn had one of the prettiest looks of the night.

 Rose Byrne in Calvin Klein.

Morgan Saylor looks perfect for a younger woman in this Honor number.

Christina Hendricks' jewels, hair and makeup were lovely. Her dresses always fit her perfectly.

Go Jessica Lange! Not sure about the dress, but hair and makeup looked pretty.

Connie Britton in velvet brocade. I don't know why everyone panned it so much, but I think it flatters her.

Not so sure about. . .

Claire Danes' dress was ahhhmazing up close...However, not sure if it was flattering on her body type. That said, love her embracing her natural shape!  No taped up chest here! Apparently that was a faux bob. I prefer her hair more natural.

Pretty hair and makeup, but this dress also did not flatter, (but did flatten) January Jones I thought.

Not a fan of . . .

I adore Robin Wright, but I just didn't like this on her. The hair needed some styling.  Maybe it was just that she has broad shoulders and with the flat hair, it just looked very masculine. Perhaps jewelry or a great clutch would have kicked it up a notch.

Really? Fashion Police and this is all she came up with? I expect a little more wow from Juliana Rancic, not to mention the girl needs some fat. She would be so much prettier if she gained some weight. Sorry but being too thin ages you, no? (Also, cut back on the spray tan girls. It's not attractive and just so fake.)

Kelly Osbourne another Fashion Police gal, also should have been a win, but this very vintage-looking dress made her bigger than she is. I blame the top. Also, those kind of fluttery short sleeves look good on almost no one.

Julianne Hough in Jenny Packham. Too long and just don't like seeing what looks like panties under. Looks about to fall off. What's up with her hair?

I see why Lena Dunham chose this fun Prada number, but the bodice was unflattering. Got to be honest here and say I'm not a tattoo fan.

Sarah Hyland collaborated with Carolina Herrera on her dress, but it's way too old for her and frankly, way too ugly. She needs to ditch the heavy makeup and tan! This looks like a Halloween costume.

Amy Poehler. Just meh. Something about the top seems cheap.

I think Mindy Kaling's hair was pretty...Not so much the gown!

Adorable Sofia Vergara is always gorgeous, but haven't we seen this Jessica Rabbit look from her every time? Love to see her hair up and something modern and different for a change.

  Melissa Leo. Um, no.

Let's chat! Tell me, did you love or hate something? Spill it. Love to hear what you all think! Did I forget to include anyone that stood out?

San Francisco Neimans and a Blogger Girl's Lunch!

Yesterday I had the most fun day I have had in a long time.  I trekked up to San Francisco to meet Adrienne from The Rich Life on a Budget. Adrienne, is also a Northern California girl who lives in wine country. San Francisco is the halfway point between our homes. Luckily, it was a gorgeous day in the city! Fall is the best time to visit SF.

There is always a bit of nerves when meeting someone that you really only know online, in person for the first time. However, Adrienne was just as she seems on her blog. She couldn't be friendlier or nicer. She is also super-model pretty. It was kind of like hanging out with a down-to-earth and sweet brunette Elle Macpherson. That is not an exaggeration!

She is also super fun. We had a wonderful old school girl's lunch at the Rotunda in Neiman-Marcus. If you haven't been to this institution, it's one of the last places left to have a proper ladies' lunch complete  white table cloths, silver, and a daily fashion show.

Inside the gorgeous Rotunda which is at the top of the store. It's glass dome is from the original City of Paris store from the early 1900s. You can read more about it here.  It's lovely to behold at the holidays with it's huge tree!

If you are shopping in Union Square, this is a fun place for lunch, tea or a cocktail. The view overlooking Union Square is fantastic too. I haven't mentioned the monster popovers that come with strawberry butter and consume' with baby puff pastry that everyone is served...That, a friend and a glass of champagne at lunch and I'm in girl heaven. Add to that cute male models popping by the table, giggling and I need nothing else.

The beautiful models that popped by our lunch table wearing Loro Piana.
Anyway, we had so much to chat about that before I knew it we had sat there three hours!

After we wandered into the new CUSP area of NM. This is the part of the store with all the young and hip designers. The Equipment area was our favorite. Are you familiar with this brand? I knew they had amazing silk blouses. The whole line is adorable, as in, -I want it all! Check out their sweaters and print blouses if you want to see what we are talking about.

We had a ball trying things on...So much to covet! Dropped a little money here. I'm loving my new blouse that Adrienne found.  She's got a great eye for fashion as you probably know from her fashion photos on her blog. She bought some gorgeous things also and I'm know she'll share them on her blog soon.

You can't go through Neimans without a stop in the cosmetic department. We checked out the Tom Ford lipsticks and fragrances. How is it Tom Ford just knows what women want? The colors are amazing not to mention the Portofino Neroli fragrance. In it's deep teal glass it was our favorite. Wish I could send you the scent!

Adrienne checking out the Tom Ford area.
In the end, I bought the Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara. It's $35, so not cheap, but our darling cosmetic maven Tiffany who helped us navigate beauty land swore it was the best in the department. Since we don't get to do this very often I went for it and so did Adrienne.

Ms Tiffany at Neimans.
If you're in San Francisco and get to Neiman's cosmetic department look for this gal. Tiffany Johnson  is sweet, extremely knowledgeable and fun. She made shopping there relaxing without any pressure. You don't always get that feeling in the cosmetic department!

Though Adrienne and I consider ourselves savvy shoppers, we totally got sucked into the Neiman Marcus world. If you're going to treat yourself and have a fun girls' day, there is no better world! I think  it's nice to splurge once in a while. When you don't do it all the time, it's even that more special.

My loot. The beauty department is having a leopard bag as a gift with purchase right now filled with goodies.
Love the Equipment blouse. This is me. I do have a Pinterest board titled Floral & Leopard!

Best part about this day was bonding with Adrienne. I knew we would like similar things because of our blogs, but being able to shop and small talk easily was so nice. Adore this girl and we are already planning our next girl's day. Yea!

It's going to be a wet weekend here in Northern Cal! I'm so excited to get some rain. I love it. It's a good time to cozy up and bake or make soup. I'm thinking board games tonight or a classic Woody Allen movie by the fire. It also could be a good day to shop for those fall items...

What are your plans this weekend? Whatever you do, I hope it's a good one.
Thanks for stopping by my neck of the woods!

p.s. I'm linking to all these things so you can find them if you are curious. I'm not promoting anyone here. Just fun.
