Stylish Summer Entertaining for the Slacker Hostess

An alfresco breakfast earlier this summer.

One of the things I love most about summer is how the indoor-outdoor living lends itself so well to more casual and easy entertaining. I find it easier than ever to have people over as there is less anxiety of how everyone will fit in the house, (and how the house looks!)

I'd consider myself a slacker hostess and that's why I rarely entertain outside of summer. It just seems a lot of work, the planning, the food, but in contrast, summer gatherings are no-brainer. Barbecues practically cook themselves once you've got your system down. I do the set-up and sides, my hubs does the grilling and drinks, we both clean-up and he mainly does the dishes. It works like a well-oiled machine once you've done it enough and feels easy. Just add a few stylish serving bits to good simple food and you actually might look like you know what your doing! They don't have to know this is all you can cook. ;)

Saturday Edition- Cool Books, Swatch Watches, Sales & More

Don't you love how I get my Saturday edition things out on Sunday basically? I don't think this bodes well for me doing specified posts on certain days, which I was thinking of attempting...There's so much I want to share and this summer I've had trouble finding time to sit and write!

I'll try to share these fun links on the weekends going forward. I said try...The Virgo in me has to have things just so and heck I need to JUST DO IT! That's the new me, or one I aspire to be. Perfection is the enemy of good enough, right? Bear with this post, you may check out before it's over...

The Liberty Pop-In at Nordstrom San Francisco

It's been a crazy summer, but I made time last week to get to San Francisco to report on the Liberty Pop-In at Nordstrom in San Francisco.  My friend Jeanne and I appreciate all things British and especially Liberty, so we couldn't miss this special event.

Liberty of London, for those unfamiliar, is the most fabulous London department store. It's shaped like a wooden sailing ship and is the purveyor of all things beautiful and British. What makes it unique is their Liberty Art Fabrics line which is available in clothing, bags, home goods, scarves, china and much more. Liberty has had a huge revival lately and some of their iconic florals have been in Nike, J.Crew, and even the Vans shoes collections. This collaboration with Nordstrom is their latest.

Trina Turk's Desert Home Style

Everyone knows I am a big fan of native San Jose girl and California designer Trina Turk, so I was excited to see her Palm Spring's home featured last week on One King's Lane.

Wimbledon Chat 2015- The all white rule, royal box & Pimm's cups

I don't know why I get so excited about Wimbledon, but I am in my happy place when it's on. There is no other sporting event I get as excited about!

Looks like Serena will dominate this year again as she's been unstoppable.

I loved the semi-sheer leopard print on her Nike dress.

New York City Tips - Hotels, Restaurants & Brooklyn

Our New York City trip was planned on the fly and was a success thanks to some recommendations from friends. One of the best tips I can give you is ask friends what they did, where they stayed, etc.

We planned one or two places to tick off everyday and took in what we could getting to and from these spots. I think travel to a big city works best that way...Don't plan too much. Leave room for discoveries, wandering and getting lost a bit!

Some tips for NYC:

A Californian July Fourth

Happy Fourth of July! I always love splashing a bit of red, white and blue about.

I've said it before this is truly my favorite part of the summer.
If I travel in summer, I always have to be home by the fourth. I've only ever missed it once.

I have so many good memories of my California childhood and many involve summer.
The older I get the more I appreciate the simple joys of those times!

modern summer pieces

It really feels like summer to me when we get to July Fourth weekend. I love having extra days off, watching Wimbledon, and eating cold watermelon and placing little American flags all about.  In a couple weeks all the fall pre-sales will begin, but I feel like I'm just getting my summer capsule wardrobe together. I've tried my best to shop my own closet and use what I already have in new ways. I am using my my 6 new purchases in different combos with things from several summers past and it's nice. I am also realizing what things just are done and I have little bag to drop them in to donate.

One thing I've noticed is adding a new accessory really makes everything look current and new. I'm wearing the same tops, white jeans and khakis I have for many several summers, but modern shoes and bags give it a fresh look! That's all you need sometimes. After my trip to NYC (more from my trip on the next post), I got a few new brands on my radar and I like the new look some of these pieces have. Just one can give your whole wardrobe a little lift.

Here's some chic bits I noticed many of the New York City girls were sporting similar things...
