Getaways- The Parker Palm Springs

The weekend before last I got away for a birthday and anniversary weekend with my husband to The Parker Palm Springs. I've always wanted to stay there and it did not disappoint! It's a gorgeous place with amazing gardens and the whole resort was decorated by Jonathan Adler, whom I love. Here's a little glimpse into this fabulous and fun spot some call the adult version of Disneyland!

The rooms have a 1970s vibe with hanging chairs and some terrific mid-century modern furniture, like our room above.

Loving Right Now..The Denim Dress

I just got back from a weekend at the pretty Parker Palm Springs. I've always wanted to visit this gem and finally got to see why it's one of a kind. I can't wait to share all about it in an upcoming post. When I was there I stopped at the Trina Turk flagship store in Palm Springs and picked up this little shift. I was desperate for something light to wear and this dress was so easy, cool and could transition from day dress/coverup, to night with ankle wrap sandals and some vintage earrings from the 60's like I brought with me. Plus it has pockets and that usually seals it for me. I bought mine at Trina, but it looks like Nordstrom has more inventory of it right now. It runs large, so I bought a 2 and I usually wear a 6. It falls straight and looks better a little short. (Top photo I am wearing it on the way out to dinner- below on the way to the pool.)

Inspiring Italians Show Grace at The U.S. Open

The refresh button was hit at the U.S. Open this week and I loved it.  How nice it was to see some new faces and a few Cinderella stories come true. Roberta Vinci and Flavia Pennetta, were examples of grace in sports as the surprise ladies' final singles players, ranked 43rd and 26th in the world they beat the odds and won hearts.

Both women grew up in Puglia, Italy not far from each other, and were roommates in Rome as young teenagers working on their tennis. Sixteen years ago they won the French Open ladies doubles title...

Isn't this the best?

Last Bits of Summer..

It's Labor Day weekend, our last hurrah before sweaters, crunchy leaves and don't even mention the pumpkin lattes like my sons have been doing! Let's keep the summer mindset people- at least for the next three days!!

I made this collage of some of my favorite summer images. I think I'm sad because summer means leisure time to me and I don't want it to go!

In that spirit, let us not speak of fall right now and squeeze a bit more summer in shall we??

Home Glamour -The Elements of Style Book

Now that the kids are back in school I finally have some bigger chunks of time to actually work on things I've been meaning to get to. One of them is the house. Seems I always have plans to paint, update and purge things we really don't need anymore. In short, a lot to do! One thing that never fails to gets me inspired is home books and my latest favorite is this beauty...

Elements of Style- Designing A Home & A Life, by Erin Gates is filled with pretty photos and ideas that will get you motivated to brighten and modernize. I don't know about you, but now that I am finally have a chance to step back and look at the house, I realize there is so much we don't need and a lot of pieces we have just taken on from family, and also dragged with us from other homes. Some things that worked great in our other home never really worked here, but we kept anyway. I added a few new things when we moved here 5 years ago, then we went through our start-up years and we didn't do much else after that. Now that we once again are to add some home upgrades, I want to  focus on getting our home the way I really would like it. Up to it's potential is how I like to think of it...
